2000: A New Chapter

A new era began in 2000 when John and Evangelia Scheidt took ownership. Evangelia managed the deli for nearly two decades, leaving her personal touch on the business and becoming a beloved figure in the community. Known for her warm service and high-quality food, Evangelia’s presence made the deli a staple in Shark River Hills. After 19 years of dedication, she leased the business for six years, but her connection to the deli remained strong.

1925: The Beginning

The story begins in 1925 when Henry and Mary Dolan established a general store at the foot of Tucker’s Bridge. Known then as United Grocer Store, the store was much more than a grocery shop—it was a gathering place for the community. Locals could buy groceries, auto parts, and gasoline, enjoy ice cream on the porch, rent boats, or catch the bus service around the Hills. The store quickly became a vital part of daily life in Shark River Hills.

1952: The Cracker Barrel Era

In 1952, the store was renamed Cracker Barrel under the ownership of Mr. and Mrs. Blauvelt. This marked its transformation into a community-centric establishment, further embedding itself into the fabric of Shark River Hills life.
